Progress in irons, walls & electronics

The day to day changes are more subtle now. All but one stairway now have full handrails. The rail for the spiral stair is so beautiful, I wanted to put it in the garden as sculpture. As a small visitor observed today, it's a swirl!

The exterior walls are finally moving along with some steady pace. The stucco crew is working on the west wall. All the wind in this neighborhood blows from the west, so we often hear flapping and crashing noises from the scaffolds at night. Except when a Noreaster blows, helping the rain find the few remaining open seams and sending us scurrying for buckets inside the house again. The first sheets of Cor-ten are up, along with their stainless steel trim. D. alternately calls them "black iron" which they are, temporarily.

Most of the interior walls are sheetrocked, and D. brought in his son to lead a new mini-crew for taping, sanding and priming the interior walls. As the small visitor's smaller brother discovered, sanding sheetrock creates lovely snowdrifts of superfine dust. Gratefully, Charlie has not found his way upstairs yet. But he did find his way onto t-shirts for the original crew!

And finally, the elevator is now computerized. Quite a lot of circuitry accompanies the sexy flat motor. Between grumbling at the specificity of the elevator installers' wiring requirements, the electricians laugh that they call themselves 'engineers.' Surprising they aren't called computer scientists! Speaking of electricians, who let them back in the kitchen? How many times will I have to dust and mop our supposedly construction-free living space?!
