Recovering from a bad start

The week started badly, with an enormous rain storm overnight. In the 'old house,' we were always well aware of how hard it was raining because we'd hear it beating on skylights over the bedroom and kitchen. Now there's another floor over the erstwhile bedroom (we hope to move the bed upstairs before New Year's), and the kitchen clerestory roof is well insulated. So we had no idea of the threat until I was attempting to leave for work. D was utterly crestfallen, frustrated and mystified: the water is coming in at exactly the same place it always did, but now that spot is completely enclosed by a new building. Our favorite crew member braved the ice cold water to cut a huge hole in the brand new sheetrock and peer up through the old rafters at the bottom of the new roof. It appeared the water was flowing in from all directions! When the sun finally came out later in the week, D and the roofers conducted several tests and concluded that they had found and fixed the problem. Fingers crossed!

The original crew is down to just one person, and he's mostly working on the garage. It is starting to look quite spiffy, up to snuff for the Porsche that just rented a spot to D's delight. The other workers here are D's son's crew, or individuals D found through his network. They have nearly completed the ground floor entrance hall and elevator foyer, the upstairs floors, and the upstairs painting.
