Happy New Year! We were very pleased to confirm that (despite the very cloudy weather) we could indeed see Brooklyn's annual midnight fireworks, which launch from Prospect Park near Grand Army Plaza. Our original roof was too low and the fireworks were blocked by the hospital on the left side of the left photo.
Not much construction gets done between Christmas and New Years. D focused on final preparations for Monday's elevator inspection: the elevator computer controls now have a fire extinguisher and a steel door, the emergency telephone was remotely programmed by the company, a floor carpet is in place in the cab. We expect the elevator to pass muster and be fully in service by Tuesday! Use of the elevator will mark the beginning of the final stage of construction, in which we'll move everything upstairs and re-do the 2nd floor ceiling, walls and floor. D says we won't have kitchen access for about 3 weeks during this phase - local friends, prepare to be visited!
Though it is starting to seem like forever, we've just completed our 40th week of construction and we're only about 2 months behind D's optimistic schedule. Real completion is somewhere between 3 and 6 months away.
