The walls came down

The temporary wall did come down on the 23rd

while I was still packing

with no hope of getting everything out of the way in time.

The lucky stuff got marched with crisp discipline into my old office / guest room. The rest of it (including all of the dishes and glasses and many of the pots and pans) is lounging around the 2nd floor, scantily clad in bits of plastic sheeting.

With that wall gone, we could finish sheetrocking the whole 2nd floor ceiling. Amazingly, it was all done by one man, with a nifty low-tech machine. (press play)

D had promised to move the grand piano and cabinets of tableware into the kitchen, and to seal the kitchen in very-temporary walls of plastic sheeting. Whatever happened to that good idea? He couldn't truly have sacrificed all that quality stuff, and committed all the upcoming months of dishwashing, just to have access to his coffee maker in the morning?

Maybe he just got too excited about getting his hands into the demolition. One afternoon he stripped all the cedar lining out of the former bedroom closets. Two days later I found him frosted with plaster as he finished stripping the sheetrock off the closet studs. Those 2x4s and the cedar panels escaped the landfill and found good homes through the awesome power of Brooklyn Freecycle.
